What's the Problem?

What can we do to stop marine litter? This is the challenge students will tackle in this resource.

Years: 5, 6

Duration: 60mins

Curriculum Objectives: 1

Subject: PSHE

Resource Overview

Plastic is the most commonly found material and it does not biodegrade, rather it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces which are mistaken for plankton or other food sources. Use this resource to encourage students to investigate waste in their own households before extending their thinking with the question: 'What can we do to stop marine litter?'
Students are invited to collect waste items from home and bring them into school before using the Litter Sources and Impacts game on interactive whiteboard to introduce the idea of how waste reaches the ocean. The perfect lesson before joining in a local litter pick in your school community.
