Sustainable Shaun: Winter is Coming!

Challenge your pupils with a scientific investigation exploring the best growing conditions for plants.

Years: 3, 4

Duration: 60mins

Curriculum Objectives: 11

Subject: Science

Resource Overview

Can your class help Shaun the Sheep find a way to extend the growing season for the vegetable patches and produce enough food for all the animals in his sustainable city?

Use the short 'Winter is Coming' mission on our online game Sustainable Shaun as a starter with your class to introduce what plants need to grow and thrive and how to carry out a scientific investigation.  After being inspired by the game mission your class can work through the pupil worksheets to make their own mini greenhouse and carry out an experiment testing their scientific predictions, taking measurements, collecting and displaying results, drawing conclusions about the best growing conditions for plants and supporting this with scientific evidence before reporting back to the class.

Please see our science and D&T lesson in the asset pack below.
