Sustainable Shaun: Energy Crisis!
A great way to learn about renewable energy and challenge different people's perceptions
Years: 3, 4, 5, 6
Curriculum Objectives: 4
Subjects: English, PSHE, Science
Use our game Sustainable Shaun (specifically Energy Crisis!) as inspiration for a starter activity with your class; exploring how cities can use renewable energy to provide the electricity needs of the population. In the game, it's the final episode of the pigeons' favourite TV show and the city doesn't have enough power to meet demand, children will work through the mission on this free online game to build their own wind turbines from junk whilst taking into account that some residents may not like wind turbines and so introducing the idea of Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY).
This mission is a fantastic way to introduce our debate lesson (see related resources on the left) as well as an opportunity to look at how they can build their own wind turbines and assess the efficiency in their designs.
- Consider and evaluate different viewpoints, attending to and building on the contributions of others.
- Listen and respond appropriately to adults and peers
- Maintain attention and participate actively in collaborative conversations.
