Introduce your class to World War 1, life during this time, and the role of women during the war. Listen to audio files from relatives of women in Bath and North East Somerset who had a role to play in the war and explore the different employment opportunities available to them. Using the information provided, pupils will compose a short narrative and musical piece to accompany an authentic newsreel clip and promote a particular job.
A Century’s Memories was an oral history project undertaken by Bath & North East Somerset Council to commemorate the Centenary of the First World War. Young students and army cadets interviewed older residents across the district about what their families and communities had done during the War, and how the War had impacted on their lives. An illustrated book and Key Stage 2 Learning Pack were produced using the stories shared, and the interviews were archived at Bath Record Office.
