World Lion Day 2020

10th August 2020

Event Overview

Strong and powerful, lions are the king of the pride lands. But they are also vulnerable to conflict with people, loss of habitat and prey.  There are around 23,000 African lions left in the wild today. Numbers have plummeted by over 40% in the last three generations. Three quarters of lion populations are in decline.

Lions are listed as 'Vulnerable’ on the IUCN Redlist.

It is essential for immediate action to protect and save the lions from future extinction. World Lion Day is at the forefront of highlighting the true plight of the wild lion populations.
