Created by and for teachers, Sustainable Learning was inspired by Bristol’s year as European Green Capital in 2015. Funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change has allowed us to continue the legacy of that very special year, when we engaged 30.000 local schoolchildren- but the work didn't stop there. We've now created this website that connects teachers with high-quality curriculum resources, expert knowledge and a useful events calendar, to help them inspire pupils all about sustainability.
Bristol 2015 Education Programme
As the Bristol 2015 Programme was developed, it was agreed with the Department of Energy and Climate Change that the year provided an unprecedented opportunity to benefit teachers across England (and beyond!). With that in mind, the team behind Sustainable Learning came together at the start of 2015, and began with a local focus. Educational workshops were delivered free of charge to all primary and special schools across the city, focusing on the themes of energy, transport, nature, resources and food. These sessions culminated in the learning resources that now populate www.sustainablelearning.com, including our Best of Bristol Virtual Fieldtrips, inspiring educational videos which form a centrepiece of the whole site. Our TIGA award-winning online game Sustainable Shaun was developed by the Sustainable Learning Team, and brought to life by Aardman Animations. Thousands have played the 'Freeplay' version of the game across the world, and the related Missions are unique classroom-based teaching resources, available only through our website. Throughout 2016 and 2017, the site will continue to progress, grow, and bring teachers, high-quality resources and expert providers together.
Sustainable Learning has now further developed into a Community Interest Company (Sustainable Hive) and continues to develop resources to share on this website, as well as create resources for businesses and organisations, offer education consultancy and run campaigns and funded projects. if you are interested in finding out more about our consultancy and funding work please do get in contact.
